Trekking in the French Alps : from Mont Blanc to Vanoise

Hiking from glaciers to lush valleys

This adventure takes you deep into the heart of the French Alps, from the majestic glaciers of Mont Blanc country to the vast icy expanses of the Vanoise Domes. Along your self-guided hike, you'll come across authentic scenes of mountain life, such as the picturesque rows of milk churns lining the roadside - a symbol of the rich pastoral traditions of the Beaufortain, where age-old know-how still thrives.

The route then leads you through three of the Alps' most iconic valleys: the famous Chamonix Valley, majestic and surrounded by towering peaks; the Tarentaise, known for its wide-open alpine landscapes; and finally, the Maurienne.

On this section of the Grande Traversée des Alpes, you'll cross an astonishing variety of landscapes - from lush alpine pastures to dazzling glaciers and unspoiled mountain villages. Each valley has its own unique identity, yet they all share the same grandeur that defines the French Alps. Blending wild beauty with rich culture, this trek through the French Alps offers a true immersion into the very soul of the mountains.

Trekking French Alps
Beautiful hike completed in nearly perfect conditions. Very professional, everything was perfectly organized and booked. The luggage transport was outstanding. I highly recommend the agency – proof of that is that we will do the second part of the GR5, from Modane to Menton, next year. A big congratulations and a heartfelt thank you!

French Alps trekking
Absolutely incredible hike! The trails through the French Alps were challenging but totally worth it. Every day brought something new – from glaciers and wild alpine meadows to quiet villages tucked into the valleys. Loved spotting the traditional mountain life, especially the rows of milk churns and grazing cows. The self-guided format was perfect – we could set our own pace and really soak in the views. One of the most epic hikes I’ve ever done!
