Cinque Terre hike : What to visit ?

The Cinque Terre National Park, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, has a very rich natural and cultural heritage. The characteristics of Cinque Terre remains the colorful villages with houses stacked on the cliffside. The villages of Cinque Terre have a common identity but each has its own particularities.

Riomaggiore is characterized by its main street which crosses the village to the port with the lively atmosphere of Italian restaurant terraces.
Vernazza is considered the most representative village of Cinque Terre.
Corniglia is the only village in Cinque Terre that is not by the sea, it stands on the top of a rocky promontory.
Manarola is an architectural gem with its Genoese-style houses. This village was founded in the 12th century, the main monument of the village is the church of S. Lorenzo.
Monterosso is the largest village in Cinque Terre. It is divided into two parts, the old village and Fegina. This village has some monuments steeped in history such as the 14th century S. John the Baptist church, the Fieschi castle and the S. Francis monastery which houses valuable works of art.

Highlights not to miss:

Manarola-Riomaggiore Trail : Also known as the Via dell'Amore Trail, this hike is the easiest in the Cinque Terre. The path follows along the coast and offers stunning views of the sea. The walking time is approximately 20 to 30 minutes, with little elevation gain. The difficulty level is easy.
Sanctuary Trail : This hiking trail connects the villages of Cinque Terre as well as three sanctuaries : the Sanctuary of Montepio, the Sanctuary of Montenero and the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie. Allow 5 to 6 hours of walking for 600 meters of elevation gain. The difficulty level is moderate. Approximate walking time to complete the entire trail is approximately 5-6 hours, depending on walking pace and any stops.
Local gastronomy: taste Ligurian specialites such as focaccia, fresh seafood and, of course, pesto!
