Aeolian Islands
The Aeolian Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are a volcanic archipelago located off the northern coast of Sicily in the Tyrrhenian Sea. Comprising seven main islands—Lipari, Salina, Vulcano, Stromboli, Panarea, Filicudi, and Alicudi—each offers unique landscapes shaped by millennia of volcanic activity. These islands are renowned for their dramatic terrain, including active volcanoes, rugged coastlines, and lush vegetation, making them a paradise for hiking enthusiasts.
Leaving from Milazzo, gateway to the Aeolian Islands, we embark on a journey where every day holds its own surprises. The 2 self-guided tours we offer allow you to discover several emblematic islands, each with its own character.
Lipari
Lipari, the largest of the islands, is often the starting point for adventure. With its picturesque alleyways, colorful houses and fascinating archaeological museum, Lipari instantly appeals. Hiking here takes you through a variety of landscapes, from white cliffs plunging into a turquoise sea to fields of bougainvillea. The views from the Belvedere Quattrocchi, where Vulcano can be seen, are absolutely spectacular. And after all that effort, there's nothing like a soothing bath in one of the secluded coves.
Stromboli
Stromboli is the island that never sleeps. Its active volcano, nicknamed “the lighthouse of the Mediterranean”, offers a breathtaking show, especially at night. Accompanied by a local guide, you can ascend to 400 metres above sea level to observe its fiery explosions. The ascent is a breathtaking experience, combining adrenalin and amazement. The village of Stromboli, with its white houses and peaceful atmosphere, contrasts magnificently with the power of the volcano. Here, time seems to stand still.
Salina
Salina, the archipelago's green island, is a paradise for nature lovers. Here you'll find lush vegetation, vineyards producing the famous Malvasia wine and shady paths winding between mountains and valleys. The climb to Monte Fossa delle Felci, the highest point of the Aeolian Islands, is a must. From up there, the view extends over the entire archipelago, offering a magical moment. Salina is also an invitation to indulge, with restaurants offering local specialities based on capers and fresh fish.
Vulcano
Vulcano is a primitive world. Here, everything is a reminder of the islands' volcanic origins: smoking fumes rising from the ground, sulfurous mud baths and black sand beaches. Ascending the Gran Crater is an unforgettable experience. At the summit, the view of the archipelago is breathtaking, and the fumaroles at the edge of the crater are mesmerizing. Vulcano is also an island of relaxation, with its healing thermal waters.
