Azores hiking
Born from the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean, the Azores is a green archipelago of volcanic islands. Lost in the middle of the ocean, this collection of nine islands is a true paradise for hikers in search of nature, wild landscapes and authentic adventures. Each of the nine islands has its own characteristics, from steep craters to its wilfife and blue lakes. Sao Miguel is known for its dramatic cliffs and geothermal springs, Flores for its untouched beauty, Pico for its majestic volcano which also happens to be the highest peak in Portugal - 2,351 metres above sea level. Faial is called "the blue island" because of the blue hydrangeas that blanket the island in the summer whereas Sao Jorge has dramatic cliffs and Terceira is known for its colorful colonial towns. And finally, the smallest island of them all, Corvo, also the most remote is a very tranquil island to escape to for a day.
Whether your're looking for a challenging ascent, such as the Mount Pico, a peaceful hike along the coast or through emerald valleys, the Azores suit every type of hiker. Nature reigns supreme in the Azores.
