Day by day program

Day 1: Cortina - Auronzo Refuge - Tour of the Tre Cime

Arrive in Cortina d'Ampezzo. From the centre of Cortina, head to the bus station to catch a regular bus to the Auronzo refuge.

From the hut you start your loop hike at the foot of the famous Tre Cime di Lavaredo, a mythical stage where you'll be surrounded by needles and peaks. On the way you'll pass by the Locatelli refuge. Return to the Auronzo hut, where you spend the night.

 

 

DISTANCE: 9 km

HIKING HOURS: 3h30

ASCENT: + 350 m

DESCENT: - 350 m

Day 2: Valle di Landro - Strudelsattel - Prato Piazza

After traversing the north face of the Tre Cime, there is a beautiful descent into the Val di Landro. The route continues with a steep ascent, and a somewhat aerial crossing secured by a cable ramp (50 m), taking you around the majestic Strudelkopf. After passing the Col Specie, you descend to the Prato Piazza mountain pasture. You can also climb up through the Val Specie. Overnight in a refuge on the plateau.

ASCENT: + 1050 m

DESCENT: - 1360 m

Day 3: Prato Piazza - Lake Braies

Today's route takes you up to the foot of the Croda Rossa, with a short cable route, before reaching a small pass and then descending to the Braies lake. The contrast between the surrounding peaks, revealing their unique mineral geology, and the alpine pastures makes for a breathtaking view! The route continues with a beautiful descent along a scree slope typical of the Dolomites. Overnight in a lakeside hotel.

ASCENT: + 600 m

DESCENT: - 1100 m

Day 4: Forcela de Riciogogn - Plateau de Sennes

From the Lac de Braies, in the heart of a natural cirque, you climb through a mineral valley to the Col de Riciogogn (2331m). There are a number of options for descending to the vast Sennes mountain pasture: the Biella refuge, under the Croda del Becco, the Munt de Sennes mountain pasture, or via the summit of the Croda del Beco for the bravest (+/-450m extra)! Overnight at the refuge, night + breakfast (dinner booked but not included in your stay).

ASCENT: + 850 m

DESCENT: - 250 m

LUGGAGE ASSISTANCE: no luggage transport

Day 5: Pederü - Plateau de Fanes

You can take a variation via the Fanes plateau to enjoy the view and the high altitude lakes of Gran de Foses, then descend into the Crosc valley. The path climbs and then crosses the alpine hamlet of Fodara. Descend to Pederü and then climb back up to the Fanes lake and refuge.

 

 

DISTANCE: 18 km

HIKING HOURS: 7 hours (without the option: 4 hours)

ASCENT: + 1000 m (without the option: +600m)

DESCENT: 1050 m (without the option: -650m)

ACCOMMODATION: in a refuge

Day 6: Forcela de Lech - Passo Valparola

The route takes you to the long Fanes plateau, surrounded by dolomitic peaks. You then climb up to the Forcela de Lech, an open window in the mountain which opens onto a mythical descent via Lake Lagazuoi and the Scotoni mountain pasture. The path climbs back up to cross over to the Col de Valparola.

Shorter option via the Col de Locia. Overnight in a refuge at the pass.

 

 

DISTANCE: 14 km (11 km for the shorter option)

HIKING HOURS: 6 hours (4 hours for the alternative route)

ASCENT: + 860 m (150 m for the alternative route)

DESCENT: - 700 m (550 m for the alternative route)

ACCOMMODATION: in a refuge

Day 7: Valparola - Cortina

The route begins by crossing the Passo Falzarego, then continues along a balcony path beneath the Tofana de Rozes. You can take the cable car up (but there's still a bit of hiking left). Descent to Cortina. End of the walk.

Without luggage transport

795€ per person in standard accommodation.

 

With luggage transport

Level

Cumulative average height gain: +/- 850m per day
Duration of stages: 4 to 6 hours per day, with possible extensions.
Particular difficulties: mountain route on marked paths, often stony. Some overhead passages are well equipped and secured by cables. 
The route is generally well signposted. 

Accommodation

Classic version :
1 night in a hotel, in a room for 2 to 4 people (depending on the size of your group),
1 night in a gîte, sharing a 4-person room,
4 nights in a refuge, in a dormitory.


Comfort version
Comfort supplement (subject to availability): 6 nights in a room for 2 to 4 people (depending on the size of your group). Groups of 4 are grouped in quadruple rooms.

All accommodation is equipped with hot showers. However, due to increasingly frequent dry spells, access to showers is not guaranteed.

 

Meals: are balanced and varied (evening meal 4 in Sennes not included in your stay). The food is hearty, adapted to the needs of hikers and often made from local produce. Special diets must be specified when booking so that we can inform the accommodation.

 

Picnics can be booked with the accommodation providers on arrival for the following day.

Baggage carrying

Depending on the option chosen :

Without luggage transport: You carry all your personal belongings for the duration of your stay.

 

With luggage transport: You carry only your belongings for the day (small rucksack). The rest of your luggage is transported between the accommodation. If luggage transport is not possible in an accommodation, you will take your personal belongings with you for the night as well. You will be reunited with your luggage the following day.

Before your departure, we will provide you with a road book specially designed for this tour, containing precise instructions that will allow you to explore and hike in complete freedom.


To fully enjoy and appreciate your hiking trip, you must be able to ensure your autonomy in the field with the documents provided.

Hiking folder

Your walking pack will be sent to you by post on receipt of payment of the balance for your stay. It includes :

  • A route book,
  • A map and two map extracts showing the route,
  • The route sheet with the list of accommodation,
  • Luggage tags.

Welcome

In the centre of Cortina d'Ampezzo where you take the bus to Auronzo. 

 

How to get there:

By train: (then transfer by bus)
Paris - Milan - Venice, then Venice-Cortina by bus, (approx. 2hrs 10mins and €45 return). Bus: Cortina Express
Or via Stuttgart, Munich, Fortezza and Dobbiaco, then Dobbiaco - Cortina by bus (approx. 45 mins).

By plane:

Venice Marco Polo international airport then transfer by bus between Venice and Cortina, (approx. 2h10 and €45 return) bus: Cortina Express or ATVO: Line 29 

By car :

Via Milan, Verona, Venice, Belluno and Cortina.
Two free long-term car parks on the outskirts of Cortina (about 10 minutes' walk from the station/1km): "Lungo Boite" (to the west) and "Parcheggio Via del Parco" (to the south).

Individual equipment

Clothing

- 1 sun hat or cap
- 1 scarf
- 1 hat and/or headband
- thin gloves (optional)
- T-shirts (1 for 2 or 3 days' walking). Avoid cotton, which takes a long time to dry; prefer short-sleeved t-shirts (breathable material) in capilene (Patagonia), Dryflo (Lowe Alpine), Light Effect (Odlo) etc...
- 1 undershirt (notes as above) or long-sleeved shirt
- 1 fleece jacket
- 1 pair of shorts
- 1 pair of trekking trousers
- 1 pair of comfortable evening trousers
- 1 light, simple Gore-tex jacket
- 1 pair of waterproof overtrousers (optional)
- Underwear
- Walking socks (1 pair for 2 to 3 days' walking). Avoid tennis socks (cotton), which take a long time to dry and can cause blisters; Coolmax socks are preferable.
- 1 pair of hiking boots with good ankle support (Vibram-type soles), preferably waterproof.
- 1 pair of sandals or casual shoes for the evening.
- A swimming costume and towel

The list of clothes should be adapted according to the season chosen.

- 1 pair of quality sunglasses, category 3 minimum 

- 1 pair of telescopic poles (optional): makes ascents and descents easier and is very useful on rough or slippery terrain
- 1 water bottle (preferably 1.5 litres)
- 1 headlamp (optional)
- 1 compass
- 1 survival blanket (optional)
- 1 pocket knife (optional)
- 1 small money pouch (preferably waterproof)
- Toiletries: preferably biodegradable products (there is CAO biodegradable liquid soap)
- 1 towel: there are some that dry quickly: Packtowl (available in 4 sizes)
- Earplugs (optional)
- Toilet paper - sun cream + lip balm.

Personal pharmacy


- Your usual medicines
- Vitamin C or polyvitamin
- Pain medication: preferably paracetamol
- Elastic adhesive tape (Elastoplast type, 6 cm wide)
- Sets of adhesive dressings + disinfectant pads
- Double skin (SOS Ampoules by Spenco, available in sports shops, chemists, drugstores, etc.)
- Mosquito repellent.
